  • Section members honoured
    Before the New Year Dr.Igor Pavlov (SUAI dean, ISA Russian section) was declared St. Petersburg Universities Teacher of the year 2004!
    Dr.Artur Budagov (SUAI Dean,ISA Russian section) was declared as the SUAI person for 2004!
    Dr. Konstantin Losev (SUAI department chair,ISA Russian section) received his Ph.D at management area from St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation on December 28, 2004!

    ISA Abu Dhabi
    ISA in Abu Dhabi have started an exam centre. The first exam (Level 1 CCST)is planned on March 15, 2005. They are starting with six candidates because it is a pilot project. The number will eventually be larger later. More information from: Dr. Smail Djirar

    Honour for Italian member
    Augusto T. Mansutti is to be recognised for his fifty-plus years of automation and control experience and his commitment to mentoring young engineering studenmts. He has been a member of ISA Italy Section since the early nineties and served as president in 2000/1. In 1974 he was one of the founders of GISI (Gruppo Impresse Strumentacione Italia).
    New District Nominator elected
    Eoin Ó Riain, (Ireland Section), District Webmaster for many years has now been elected to the poost of District Nominator. This position means that he will be on the board of nominators who recommend names of possible candidates for the officers and boards of the Society, President, Vice Presidents and other officers.
    Spain Section awards student

    Raul Guemes from Valladolid University Section received the Annual Student Award this year for his work on "USB-CAN Bus Interface". The award, consists of a diploma and €500.oo, was handed over by Francisco Díaz-Andreu (Students Section Liason) during ISA Spain Section Annual Conference held on June 9th in Madrid.

    Russian delegation at ISA Brazil show
    Russian section delegation were in Argentina and Brasil at end of November. They signed some agreements between Universities and participated at Dist 4 ISA Brasil show and Congress.     ISA advances in Nigeria

    left to right: Patrick Umeh(Vice-President),Oladapo Lawal(Secretary), Samuel Falese(President) and Chuks Izuogu(Treasurer) Our District is taking a new shape with the formation of the Nigeria section which will be presented for charter at the PFM in Houston this fall. Under the sensible, energic and sustained leadership of Mr Samuel Falese Olukunle (lanrewaju60@yahoo.com), this section is ready to charter only 8 months after we first raised the idea on January this year. Jean Vielle, District 12 VP says, "I believe that ISA has the most relevance in such a major developing country where people are eager of knowledge and networking oportunities. I warmly thank Laura Crumpler our District staff administrator and the England section, particularly David White, former section president for helping them in the process of making this section alive. This section already has 47 members including 2 students. We all give our support and best wishes to the new section!"
    Italy produces newsletter
    The Italy Section section have produced a newsletter this month. It has been distributed to all members of ISA and AIS throughout Italy. However they have produced an English Language version so that the other members in the District members may see it too. They have a new Website URL at www.ais-isa.it.     DLC Nice 2004

    Friend of ISA passes -
    Professor doctor of science Alexander Sinyakov, 65 - who actively participated in organizing ISA St. Petersburg Russian section and was president of the section in 1999 - died 24 February,2004.
    Born in Leningrad, Russia in 1938, he graduated from the State Polytechnic Institute in St. Petersburg in 1961. He worked at the St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation from 1972 and was the Vice-Rector of the SUAI. He had a full doctorate, and was an honoured scientist of the Russian Federation, author of many of books, papers, publications and patents, member of many academies, ISA senior member and a well-known specialist on instrumantation and safety systems.
    His brilliant life was dedicated to educating students. Sinyakov was the Chairman of the District 12 students competition Jury since 1997.
    May he rest in peace.
