President-Elect McCaw
A visit of ISA president 2004 Lowel McCaw to the district occured recently. The sections he visited were the England, Ireland, Leinster Ireland, and leaders from the France, Belgium and Netherlands Sections. There may be some reports on this visit on the individual section websites.

Awards announced.
The ISA awards for 2003 have been announced. They were presented at the Autumn Meeting of the Society in Houston (US). There are a number which are given within our district. Full Details

In recognition of exemplary efforts and achievements across many countries, cultures, and languages to further ISA student activities and to mentor students.
Distinguished Society Service Award: Maurizio Brancaleoni (Italy Section)

For garnering the most points among medium (201-400 members) Gold Sections

New VP Elect announced
Billy Walsh from the Ireland Section is the new Vice President Elect for District 12. He has been President of the Ireland Section and has held many offices in that section.
In the District he has acted as Treasurer and more recently as District Secretary.
He is part of the team at the National University of Ireland's prestigious Dairy and Food Engineering Department in Cork.

ISA Ireland's Industry Dinner
The ISA Industry Dinner, which was be held in Cork in October. This social event was organised to celebrate the Section winning the Gold in the World Section Performance Award, for the second year in a row. The sectioned also recognised Bob Shine the first member in Ireland to be awarded the Society's Golden Achievement Award for 25 years dedicated service

Russian member honoured
RAS academics professor Lidia Chubraeva (St. Petersburg Russian section member) received recognition in a greeting letter from Russian president Vladimir Putin to mark March 8, 2003 ( Women's Day). FORUM ADVANTIC
The Advantic Forum held recently has been a great success. 300 participants took part.
The Key of success was at first the reputation of the IRA Institute throughout France and Nortf Africa, a strong program on
advanced topics in automation with international industrial and academic experts in advanced control with strong tutorial & technical sessions. Strong cooperation with ISA France section from the planning stage ensured this high quality of content.
The organisers were especially fortunate to have the presence of President Pino Zani and help for various other sections including Ian Verhappen from Canada and Paulo Pinceti from Genoa.
A proposal has been made to hold a District 12 Symposium for the year 2003/4, possible in the Marseille Region on Advanced instrumentation & Automation in the Environmenta Field (technical , economical & safety aspects). This would be held in the English language with simultaeneous translations into French.

International Conference
Striving for Perfection in a Regulated Environment - An End User View
