  • 50 years old
    The Scientific Research Institute of Electrical Measuring Instruments (NIIEP) was created in 1952. An official ceremony was organized at the Duke Nicolas Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia at October 11, 2002 to celebrate the event.
    NIIEP is a prominent and well respected Russian producer of ideas in the field of combined development of electric measuring instrumentation with more then 30 years of cooperation with the International Electric Committee (IEC) and with the International Organization of Legislative Metrology (IOLM). ÒOur tradition is to consider world standards as the starting level to our designs.Ó General director of the NIIEP is Professor Valery Ivanov ( current ISA Russia Section President). Many greeting letters from Russian and Foreign instrumentation organisations were received.
    A letter from ISA President Pino Zani was read by Alex Bobovitch during main meeting.


    District 12 Leadership Conference

    Ireland Section History published

    25 Year History-ISA Ireland Section 1977-2002
    Ireland Section Historian Bob Shine's tracing of the evolution and development of the section over the first 25 years. An interesting well illustrated look at the story of one of the districts oldest sections punctuated with many anecdotes. This 218 page volume is possibly the first Section History published by a section in the district

  • First Diploma to Valladolid University, Spain section as the winner of the SC 2002 . ( 170 points).
  • Second Diploma to the Silesian Technical University, Poland section(143 points).
  • Third Diploma to the Cork Institute of Technology, Ireland section( 130 points).
    Individual Awards
  • First Diploma to Luis Zamarreco ( Valladolid University, Spain) as the winner of the SC2002 ( 47 points).
  • Second Diploma to Angel Martin ( Valladolid University, Spain)( 43 points).
  • Third Diploma to Alejandro Merino and Almudena Rueda ( Valladolid University, Spain)( 40 points)
  • Forth Diploma to Colin Lehane ( Cork Institute of Technology< Ireland)( 38 points).
  • Fifth diplomas to Sebastian Budzan, Tomasz Kedzierski, Boleslaw Bak ( Silesian Technical University, Poland) and Agliozzo Carmelo ( Catania University, Italy) ( 37 points).
    All students - participants of SC2002 and students advisers were awarded certificates of participation.
    It is hoped to hold the 6th D12 competition in January 2003.


    Interview with Pino Zani
    SA President for the year 2002 is Pino Zani from the Italy Section. This is a signal honour for Pino and a reconition of his work over many years in the Society. It is also an honour for his Section and for District 12.
    All members wish him well in his term.

    Intersection presentation
    The recent Ireland Section Exhibition and Conference proved to be very successful. Over sixty companies exhibited and the event provided concurrent technical presentations. This annual show is firmly embedded into the I&C calandar of the country and the visitor list includes many of the most influential leaders in our profession.
    This year's show was attended by the President of the England Section, Mark Dutton, and Ireland Section President availed of the opportunity to present him with a copy of the recently published Ireland Section History.

    Bretby Conference useful for interchange of ideas
    Supported also by GAMBICA and the Institute of Measurement & Control, the first Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation European Conference and Exhibition was held in March. A strong educational program supported by a small shell-scheme exhibit, this focused event provided dynamic opportunities for learning, solutions-exchange, and social interaction among suppliers and end-users. Picture shows some of this interaction during one of the more informal sessions.


    New section to form in QATAR

    A new section is being formed in the Gulf State of Qator. There are already Sections in Saudia Arabia nd the UAE. The formative meeting - picture above taken from a newspaper report in the local newspaper - included many local industries especiaily in the petroleum and petrochemical industries. The section expects to operate a full programme from January 2002 and it's charter should be granted during that year.
