European Status
New Orleans: 21st August 2000: Several important decisions were made at the President's Autumn Meeting held in the most European of American Cities in
August 2000.
The European Region became an ISA District with its own representation on the Board of District Vice Presidents. The name of
the Society was constitutionally changed to the Instrument Systems and Automation Society as a further mark of its globalisation policy. The style of the ISA Logo was changed to a bolder more modern shape "suggesting a changed society while retaining its core
elements."
Other constitutional changes in the governance and membership catagories were also announced. Honour and Challenge for European Member New Orleans: 21st August 2000: Pino Zani of the Italian Section has
been elected to the position of President-Elect/Secretary of ISA. He is the first such nominee from outsiude of North America. His term of office as
President of ISA is to commence in January 2001.

Impact of Standardsation The European Commission have
commissioned a body to investigate the impact of Standards. It appears there will be an ongoing dialogue conducted over a year and it may well provide
some insight and ideas relative to our future plans and activities. The survey is being conducted by ISUG -
Impact of Standards User Group A workshop is being organised on the above topic 9-10 April. See the ISUG Site for details.
ISA England Banquet The annual get together of the
England Section took place in December and was attended by over 300 people. Among those in attendance were (l-r) Alan Palmer, Former President England
Section, David Morrow, former District 12 VP, Declan Lordan, District 12 VP and Perry Grady, former ISA President. David received the Section's Society
award at the dinner. The section also presented an Industry award which went to Chris Towle of MTL for his work concerning intrinsic safety.
New Section Website The latest
Section to have a web site is France. Although still building it is well worth a look with some nice ideas.
France is hosting the Annual District 12 Workshop and European Council Meeting in May in Nice
 New District 12 VP Declan
Lordan from the Ireland Section is the New District 12 VP. The VP Elect of District 12 is David Norman of the England Section who was
previously Chairman of the European Region (pic right).
