Such a goal can only be attained combining different approaches: changing attitudes, lifestyles and content of growth, technological developments in the areas of production, transport and use of energy. Advanced automation technology is an effective way to attain energy-saving and emission reduction in various sectors. Some studies consider that information and communication technologies in general could deliver 7 to 8 Gt CO2e of emissions savings, i.e. 15% of GHG emissions in 2020 based on a "Business As Usual" estimation. There is huge market potential in the development of low-carbon economy that favors automation enterprises to actively expand to the sectors of energy production, transformation, transmission, distribution and utilization. The first international ISA EMEA Forum, organized under the auspices of the ISA District 12 (covering the Europe, Middle East and Africa zones), will focus on the stakes of automation in the search for a low carbon economy and feature the technologies which will be of the essence in the coming years. After overall introductions by key-note speakers, the forum will notably address the following issues:
