IRELAND SECTION

Citation: For garnering the most points among medium (201-400 members) Gold Sections.

Criteria:
To recognise Sections for achievements or for outstanding accomplishment in a particular area of Section Activity.

ALEXANDER V. BOBOVITCH

Citation: In recognition of exemplary efforts ond achievements across many countries, cultures, and languages to further ISA student activities and to mentor students.

An energetic and enthusiastic leader in ISA student activities, Alexander V. Bobovitch has chaired student programs for the European Don W. Thompson Awardregion the past seven years. Mr. Bobovitch was one of the organizers of the first ISA Student Section in the European region. He initiated many student projects, including District 12 student competitions and conferences, student roundtables via Internet, international student open paper competitions in the area of aerospace instrumentation, and a student exchange among European Universities. Under Mr. BobovitchÕs leadership, the number of ISA students in Europe has grown tremendously, and the number of student Sections has increased six times over.

As European student team adviser at the International Student Competition from 1996 through 2002, Mr. BobovitchÕs teams received silver medals in 1999, bronze medals in 2000, and gold and silver medals in 2001. Two Italian students on Mr. BobovitchÕs team earned gold and bronze medals at the Student Games in Chicago in 2002.

Mr. Bobovitch joined ISA in 1994 and became a Senior Member in 1996. As an edocator, Mr. Bobovitch has always focused on fostering student activity in ISA, and he became the SectionÕs student advisor in 1995, serving until 1997. He was Section secretary from 1994 to 1998, and he currently serves as delegate and treasurer for the Section.

Since 1994 Mr. Bobovitch has worked as vice-director of the North-West Centre of Information Technologies at St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI). He holds a Master of Computer Science degree from Leningrad Institute of Aerospace Instrumentation and is the author of 90 papers, reports, books and USSR authorÕs certificates.

MAURIZIO BRANCALEONI ISA Italy Section

Citation: In recognition of outstanding service and contributions to the Society and its Members.

Maurizio Brancaleoni joined ISA in 1986 and is now a Senior Member. His support of ISA includes serving as membership chair and president of the Italy Section. He has been involved in the Society regionally as European Region chairman and served on the ISA Executive Board as Vice President of District 12. He currently co-chairs the ISA 5P96 Standards Committee, a standard dealing with valve actuators.

Dr. Brancaleoni began his career as an instrument engineer with Foster Wheeler Italiana, designing plant controls and automation systems. Since 1981, Dr. Brancaleoni has been the managing director of AUMA Italiana SrI, a company he helped to form in 1976. AUMA Italiana is a subsidiary of AUMA Werner Riester GmbH Group, world leader in the production and sales of electric actuators and gearboxes for the operation of industrial valves.

In addition to his ISA activities, Dr. BrancaleoniÕs support of the automation and controls community includes being a member of ATI (Italian Thermotechnical Association) and AIS (Italian Association of Instrument Engineers). He is past-president of GISI (Italian Association of Instrument and Control Manufacturers and Suppliers), and he is currently president of PASCAL, the first private Italian notified body for certification under the European Union Pressure Equipment Directive. He serves as president and CEO of ItalianMec.com, portal of the Italian Mechanical Industries, and is vice president of ANIMA Ñ Italian Federation of Mechanical Engineering, as well.

Dr. Brancaleoni earned a Ph.D. in physics from Universita Statale in 1977.

ROBERT C. SHINE
ISA Ireland Section
F.Á.S. Training Centre (Retired)

Citation: in recognition of long and continuous dedication to the Society and its ideals.

Now a Senior Life Member, Robert C. Shine joined ISA in 1978 and became a Senior Member in 1981. During 25 years of ISA membership, Mr. Shine has held many offices in the Ireland Section, including treasurer, secretary for two terms, membership chair education chair, and president. He has participated as a member of the Membership and Education Committees and is currently Section historian. For his considerable service, the Section honored him with its Pioneer Award in 1995.

Mr. Shine spent 23 years with Foras Áiseanna Saurhair (F.Á.S..)-ÑTraining & Employment Authority, in the Cork Training Centre, teaching and instructing in the field of instrumentation He designed and delivered courses focused on the chemical, pharmaceutical, and fond industries in Ireland. From 1982 to 1995, Mr. Shine worked with IrelandÕs National Test and Certification unit to plan and design the Instrumentation and Electrical/Instrumentation Apprentice programs. During 1996 he was head of the engineering department at the Cork Training Centre.

Beginning his career as an electrician in a sugar refinery, Mr. Shine also worked as an instrument technician in an oil refinery in Cork Harbour for 20 years before going into government service in 1978. He earned a certificate in supervisory management from College of Commerce Cork, and diplomas in social studies and in training and education from University College.

Since 1979, Bob has been a committee member of the Southern Region of NISO - The National Irish Safety Organisation, serving as regional chairperson and member of the national executive board for three years. He was elected an honorary Life Member of NISO in 2002.
